Every year the CBCA (Children's Book Council of Australia) appoints noted authors, educators, publishers and writers to judge from the nominations. The CBCA judging panel initially selects a 'Notables and Shortlist' which teacher librarians and teachers eagerly await. This list is released on the 12th April 2011. From this list a series of books are selected as finalists for the Early Childhood categories of: 'Picture Book of the Year', 'Book of the Year: Early Childhood' and we select a series of materials which are suitable for use in the classroom which are called: 'Book Week Support Materials'. This is the most prestigious award for a children's book in Australia and constitutes recognition of the work of the publisher and author in creating a book of great significance. Network Educational Australia release the list on the 12/4/2011 for orders and we will once again, stock the shortlist titles for ordering purposes throughout the period leading up to the finalist announcement in September 2011.
